Arafura Times
The Arafura Times is a weekly newspaper published (Wednesday) from the East Arnhem Land gateway township of Nhulunbuy, on the Northern Territory's Gove Peninsula.
The newspaper, of which 1,350 copies are printed per edition, is 100% fully-paid with a cover price of $2.00, and is essential reading for the local residents of the booming bauxite mining town, which boasts the highest per capita income of the Northern Territory.
Beyond it's readership of wealthy miners and their families, the newspaper is distributed to the vibrant Yolngu indigenous communities of Yirrkala and Ganyangara (Ski Beach).
The Newspaper is tabloid-size and is printed in full colour.
Nhulunbuy and Weipa – key parts of Australia's economic future
Both operated by the world's fourth largest mining company Rio Tinto Alcan, Nhulunbuy (Gove) & Weipa together account for 17% of global production of bauxite – the ore that is used in the production of aluminium. With known reserves forecast to last another 60 years, these two towns will continue to be significant contributors to global economic development for decades to come.
